The biggest defense of this is she and Seb, at the end of the movie, have a collective flashback about all the good things that they shared together - clearly excising the fights. It was clear, that both of them had nothing but the utmost love for each other, still.
They don't follow the typical 'chance-meeting, instant-spark, blissful-time-together, one-person-fucks-up, seemingly-inconsolable-differences, grand-gesture' plot line that most every other movie does. This movie deals with dreams and love, but it's not really typical.
